For over 60 years, Maltby & Company, Inc. has been owned and managed exclusively by the
Maltby family. Freeman Maltby began the Company in 1949 and was the sole owner
and manager through the mid 1980’s when he passed control of the business to his
3 sons; Bill, Bob and Bruce Maltby. Over the past 25 years, the 3 brothers have grown
the Company to its’ present size and have established its’ reputation as one of the
finest in the field. Today, a 3rd generation is involved in the business and is applying
new technologies and innovations to create a safer and more efficient company.
The mission at Maltby & Co has always been to create and develop long-term
relationships with clients by focusing on customer satisfaction superior service. We employ some
of the most skilled individuals to maintain high standards and a leadership position in the industry.
Our management team focuses on safety, implementing new technology wherever possible and treating our customers with the attention and respect they deserve.
Meet the Maltby Family:
Freeman Maltby
Originally a wool broker, at the end of World War II Freeman Maltby entered the tree business seeing an opportunity to apply new ideas to a labor intensive industry. In 1954 he purchased
one of the first “Bucket Trucks” which revolutionized tree work. Within a few years he introduced
the technique of using cranes to efficiently and safely remove trees greatly reducing the hazards involved in tree removal. He developed a sawmill to take advantage of the large amount of timber that was being generated to produce industrial hardwood products. His imaginative and forward-thinking approach to doing business underscored his management style. He was father to Bob, Bill and Bruce Maltby, who continue the family business today.

Bob Maltby - Manager and Director of Sales
Bob has been in the tree care business for over 30 years. He began his career outside the
family business at a small New England tree company located in Southeastern Massachusetts. Bob went to school at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts
at Amherst where he became a Massachusetts Certified Arborist. His climbing skills led him to become a champion in the International Tree Climbing Competition sponsored by the International Society of Arboriculture. His involvement in professional organizations includes:
- Past President of the Massachusetts Arborists Association
- Past president of the Bristol County Tree Wardens Association
- Past ISA New England Chapter Board of Directors
- ITCC (International Tree Climbing Competition) member, committee judge and former international champion (1983)
- S.E. Mass. Tree Wardens & Arborist Association member
- TCIA Z-133 Crane Safety Subcommittee
- Alpha Tau Gamma Fraternity Alumni Board of Directors
Bob is husband to Barbara, his wife of 31 years, and has 4 children. His son, Brian, is
currently employed in the business. Bob enjoys sailing, golf and photography.

Bill Maltby - Director of Administration and Finance
Bill has been in the tree care business for over 40 years. He studied business and accounting at the University of Massachusetts and Boston University. Bill’s early work with the company included running the company sawmill which eventually became The Forest Floor, Inc., the recycling component of Maltby & Co., Inc. . Bill was one of the original board members of the Safety Saves Educational Program with the MAA. Bill has a long standing commitment to customer service and satisfaction and believes that it should be the foundation of any business. When it comes to the business, Bill feels that the most rewarding aspect of the job is being part of a long-standing family business. He and his wife, Joanne, enjoy gardening and their family which includes their four children and five grandchildren. Their daughter, Lauren, and son, Brandon, are currently employed in the business.

Bruce Maltby - Equipment and Yard Manager
Bruce began his career over 30 years ago under the guidance of his father and mentor Freeman Maltby. His area of expertise lies in researching and utilizing the latest equipment and techniques available to the industry. He is especially interested in the problems and solutions of green waste recycling and attends national seminars to stay current in the field.
As the equipment and yard manager at Forest Floor & Maltby, Bruce's most challenging project has been the development of the company’s seven-acre site in Stoughton, MA to accommodate the growth in recycling experienced over the last ten years. He has successfully developed a
major mulch manufacturing facility and continues his father’s tradition of innovation.
Bruce feels that the most important aspect of the business is its employees, who are proud to be a part of a well-respected organization with a fine reputation.
Bruce enjoys spending time with his family - wife Diane, son Trent and daughter Paige.

Lauren Maltby Damplo
Lauren joined the Company in 2005 as Director of Human Resources. Lauren graduated
from Roger Williams University in 2001 and went on to earn her Masters’ Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Hofstra University in 2005. Since her arrival, the
internal operations of Maltby and Company have become exponentially more efficient and streamlined. Her knowledge and understanding of human behavior in the workplace and organizational development have helped improve our ability to meet the high expectations
we set for ourselves and those set by our customers.
