Stump Grinding & Removal
Whenever a tree is removed there remains a tree stump. Obviously, tree stumps are unsightly and, as they decay, become home to a variety of insects. Maltby and Company offers 3 choices to deal with remaining stumps.
- Allow the stump to remain and wait 8-10 years for it to decay.
- Completely remove the stump mechanically leaving a hole to be restored with new loam and seed.
- Grinding the stump 4-6” below grade
Allowing a stump to remain in your yard and waiting for it to decay enough for removal can take up to 8-10 years. Unfortunately, some species of tree will sprout from a stump and form a large woody shrub. This could contradict the original decision to remove of the tree. In addition, remaining tree stumps naturally attract unwanted insects and can lead to infestations.
On the other hand, completely removing a stump will allow you to reclaim the beauty and use of your outdoor home by planting grass or another tree for your family and friends to enjoy. Using heavy equipment, Maltby and Company can help you maintain the beauty and use of your outdoor home by excavating unsightly stumps from your property. This is usually done only when construction is planned for the site as it can be a somewhat costly and cumbersome process.
As an alternative to excavation, our tree professionals can grind stumps to 4” to 6” below grade using special grinding equipment. The resulting chips and surrounding soil are then backfilled into the remaining hole. This is the most cost effective and easiest way to deal with stumps. Once a stump is ground it no longer harbors insects because the resulting wood mulch is not a preferable environment for their survival. Of course, our crews can remove the stump grinding mulch and completely restore the site with new loam and seed for an additional cost.
